Understanding Singapore NVI Stamps

Overseas stamp collector may have some questions revolving Singapore Non-Value Indicator Stamps (NVI).

One question revolves around the inscription of these stamps. Often, the inscriptions have leads to mis-conception that they represent class of service (i.e. 1st Class, Priority Mail).

In the postal service in Singapore, there is no class of service differentiation for local mail. The inscription in these NVI stamps instead represents the weight class.

Stamps inscribed as 1st Local is for local mail weighing up to 20 gram and 2nd Local for local mail weighing up to 40 gram.

I hope that this helps to solve mis-conception revolving Singapore NVI stamps.
